The Boston Product Management Association meeting on Thursday April 15 will feature: Product Management through a Project Management / Case Study Approach presented by Suruchi Sharma: Charles River Associates

Learn to utilize strategic frameworks to tackle business problems. Suruchi Sharma, a Sr Associate with Charles River Associates, will show how to use strategic frameworks to tackle business problems. The first case will be a presentation to demonstrate the CRA methodology. Then the group will break into smaller groups to discuss and present proposed solutions to two more cases. Case topics are:

• International Market Expansion

• Gross Margin Profitability analysis

Management consultants bring several different aspects to a business engagement – an unbiased view of the business, an analytical approach, a structured methodology, and finally, recommendations grounded in data rather than ‘gut-feel’. With these cases, Suruchi will provide examples of all of the above in real business situations. While there is no one solution framework that fits all problems, the discussion of some of these engagements will introduce methodologies that drive management professionals to use a data-driven, analytical approach to identify and optimize future growth opportunities.

The Roles and Organization of Product Management

Steve Johnson of Pragmatic Marketing will introduce the product management triad and how the three roles are affected by organizational choices. Using a decade of research, the presentation reveals the best way to organize your team.

Leaders will learn techniques that do and do not work in organizing product management teams. Everyone who attends will be able to explain the difference between the roles of product manager, product marketing manager, and product owner.

Join Us at a Holiday Social on Dec 11

On Dec 11, enjoy the holidays with fellow CI professionals and others at the Hotel Indigo Riverside in Newton just off Rt. 95 to network and talk about CI in the current economy and future SCIP/Boston Product Management Association (BPMA) events. Hours are 6-8 PM.

Two great panels are planned for winter 2009.

On Thursday Jan 15, SCIP Boston will hold a joint meeting with BPMA to discuss how product managers and marketers (PM) can work together more effectively. The panel will have both CI professionals who work with PMs and PMs who need CI. The February 2009 our panel will focus on CI career issues.

Submit questions for both panels, and how the economy is affecting CI at your organization (a summary will be emailed to all attendees) and talk with SCIP Boston steering committee members about what you would like to see for future activities. We’ll offer limited appetizers and the Indigo’s bar is right next to our gathering space to purchase sodas and other refreshments.
