Losing in the short term may be beneficial in the long term. Not obviously, unethically throwing a badminton match in the Olympics, but losing a complaining customer who takes up too much of your staff’s time to be profitable or not bidding on a contract at a level that would result in losses. Just be sure that winning that contract will not give your competitor an advantage. Keep your focus on the part of the market where you do best to maximize your financial return.
