The first competitive intelligence conference in India was held on July 14, 2011 with about 60 attendees. While CI is a very new field in India, I was impressed with the level of interest and knowledge of the attendees. One clear difference between India and most Western nations was the presence of the Mayor of Ahmendabad at the conference. He gave an introductory statement about how important CI and this conference was to the businesses of Ahmendabad specifically and India in general.
The support of the government can hinder India's competitiveness--bureaucracy to be specific--but in other ways, the government's support will increase India's competitiveness. The government has recognized the issue and is, at least, talking about improvements such as pre-permitting large tracks of land for mines.
India's size and resources are creating a world competitor. The only question is how fast.
