I’m glad you had a chance to catch up on what’s happened in your lives since college. I enjoyed your conversation at the next table while I waited for my friend to arrive for lunch. Great that you like your sales job at ABC Company and that you can stay on the draw as long as you need to. Since your major customer XYZ only pays $.70/wiget, it will be a while before you switch to the commission plan that most reps are on. Oh, that new product that the company will announce soon does sound exciting and good that XYZ will switch to it since it costs $.05 less.
Should I have been listening? I couldn’t help but hear as the tables were very close. Now, I do not have a project dealing with ABC or XYZ, but I have researched sales compensation plans, new products, product pricing, and customer identification for clients in the past. These freely discussed tidbits would have been gems for these projects.
My message is “Be careful in public!” You never know who is listening and why.
And congratulations on that new baby! That’s the kind of news that I prefer to hear about.
